You’re engaged! But how should you celebrate? Here are a few ways in which you can celebrate this momentous occasion before any wedding plans get underway. Throw a party
Throwing a party could allow you to share the news with friends and family and let others share the joy. How you decide to party is up to - it could be a small fathering a large event with lots of people. A popular option is to host a dinner party and invite lots of people around for drinks and food. If this sounds like too much and you don’t want to cook, another option could be to organize a meal out. You could even rent out a function hall with a buffet meal if you want to make a large event (although if you plan to get married soon, you may want to tone it down a little as you could end up eating away at your wedding budget). If you have lots of friends who are couples, you could even host a couples-only party for a play on the romance theme. Just make sure to stock up champagne and try to make it enjoyable for everyone else. Plan a romantic getaway Alternatively, getting engaged could be a chance to focus on yourselves and your relationship. A romantic getaway could allow you to both spend time with each other and strengthen the bond between you. Try to consider a destination that you’ve both always wanted to visit and plan lots of new activities that could help you both to learn more about each other. This could help to make your engagement feel like the start of a new chapter in your relationship. If you’re not able to book time off work short notice but want to celebrate straight away, a last minute weekend away could be a great option. You can take advantage of last minute flights and hotel discounts so that it’s not too expensive either. Of course, you don’t have to jet off anywhere and could simply travel somewhere locally (camping under the stars could be an intimate experience for those on a tight budget). Relive your first date Your engagement could also be a chance to look back at your relationship and celebrate how it all started. You could do this by reliving your first date or returning to the place you first met. This could include a meal in a restaurant you went to whilst initially dating or a trip to a bar you first met. Obviously, you want to keep it romantic – revisiting a previous workplace where you met may not have the same impact. Hire an engagement photographer A popular way in which many newly-engaged couples celebrate is to hire an engagement photographer. This could be a chance to take a romantic photo shoot and immortalize the moment, giving you memories to look back on in years to come. When taking engagement photos, think about the type of setting you want – some couples like to keep their photo shoot local whilst others may want to travel somewhere meaningful. Popular places to shoot engagement photographs include the forest and the beach. That said, there’s no reason why you can’t have a photo shoot at home. Plan a wedding consultation For those that don’t want a long engagement and are eager to get stuck into wedding plans, you could celebrate your engagement by booking your first wedding consultation. This could include meeting with a wedding planner or looking around venues. Even if you’re not ready to get married at all, it could be a fun romantic event that could get you thinking about the future now that you’ve entered this new phase in your relationship. Initial consultations tend to be fairly cheap and you don’t have to commit to anything straight away.
