Image via Pixabay As we all know, a wedding is possibly one of the greatest and most memorable events of a person’s life. It’s a time when a couple unite and commit to each other for the long haul, in the sight of all their friends, relatives, and whatever deities they might pay homage to. It’s a chance for you to live your own fairy tale, and it’s also an occasion when you can have one of the best parties of your entire life. At your wedding, you’re the star of the event (along with your soon-to-be spouse) and you should, by all means, take full advantage of that fact, and ensure that your wedding suits your unique personalities, tastes, interests, and aesthetic sensibilities.
There are many different “styles” of wedding available. Some people opt to have rustic weddings out in the countryside, and other people opt for sleek, elegant, and ultra-modern weddings in the lobbies of luxury hotels. Getting the aesthetic of your wedding right is not necessarily going to be a stress-free, or straightforward process, but since you’ll be remembering this occasion for the rest of your life, it’s worth putting in a bit of thought and effort into making it as special as possible. Here are a few tips for getting the aesthetic of your wedding right. Decide on an overall “theme” When it comes to planning the style, look, and feel of your wedding, one of the best things you can do in order to get everything on track in a hurry, is to identify an overall “theme” that really appeals to you, and then structure everything else according to that overarching template. There are certain “cookie-cutter” themes that you’ll find repeated again and again in wedding catalogs and magazines, and on the websites of wedding planning companies. But the theme you go for should ultimately be something that really resonates with you and your partner on a deep and personal level, as opposed to just being something that ticks the right social boxes. In the last few years, more and more people have been getting more and more creative and niche with their wedding themes. Of course, you could go for the traditional fairy tale “19th-century aristocrats in the countryside” approach to a wedding, and that can be a beautiful template to apply. If you’re going for an appealing and floral theme, you could opt for an arrangement that involves decorating wedding tables with plant arrangements, and could also host a reception in a dining tent in the middle of the countryside. But you could also make your wedding revolve around a particular hobby that you and your partner share. For example, if you’re both deeply passionate about mountaineering, you could see about renting out an Alpine chalet or lodge, or perhaps a Scottish bothy, in order to have your reception in the midst of rugged terrain. If you are doing things this way, you could go for a real “mountain man” (and woman) aesthetic, including a feast around a roaring bonfire, an archery competition, a traditional folk music performance, and all the rest. Then again, if you and your partner are massive fans of Star Trek, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go for a “Trekkie” wedding, as various other people have already done. Booking a futuristic hall, and then decorating it in chrome features, neon lights, and hiring catering staff and amateur actors to play the role of key characters could go down a treat. At the very least, you can be pretty sure that no one attending the wedding would be likely to forget it in a hurry. Get the soundtrack right – music has a major impact on the atmosphere in all contexts Whatever it is we do in life, music plays a fundamental and enormous role in setting the tone, and influencing whether or not we’re going to have a great time, a less great time, and energetic time, or a reflective or melancholy time. Back in the ancient days, music was used in festivities of all kinds, and particularly in religious rituals. The reason for this is clear – if you want to influence the mood of a large group of people at once, and invoke a particular atmosphere, having an appropriate “soundtrack” is about as powerful a way of doing this is anything else you could imagine. Once you’ve identified a theme for your wedding, your next priority should be to identify a soundtrack that goes along with that theme, and that seems to encapsulate the energy you want to experience and spread at your wedding. Are you looking to have a sentimental reception, where you and your partner reflect on the journey that has taken you to this point? Or maybe you want a great, jubilant party, where everyone dances around to energetic beats? In any event, you should choose your playlist carefully, and should be sure to try and squeeze in a few songs that everyone is likely to enjoy. Plan activities that match the theme The aesthetic of a wedding isn’t just set by the actual decor, clothing, and setting, it’s also largely determined by what you do in that location, and under the “umbrella” of that particular theme. When setting up your dream wedding, you should think long and hard about the kind of activities that you’re going to host there. They should be the kinds of things that really bring your vision of your wedding to life, while also allowing everyone to have the best possible time they can, and also motivating them to let their hair down in a big way. You can get really nuanced and even a bit wacky with this stuff, and there are plenty of companies who you could hire to furnish those sorts of attractions for you, and see that they are performed safely and effectively. Karaoke is a classic, but if you or most of your friends are amateur actors, you could even stage a pantomime. Or, if you are in fact having your wedding in an Alpine setting, you could do an axe-throwing competition. Let your imagination run wild here.
